Two Jaish guerrillas, soldier killed in Kashmir

Srinagar : Two guerrillas of the Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) and a soldier were killed early Tuesday when security personnel surrounded a militant hideout in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district.

According to police, troops of the 53 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the special operations group (SOG) surrounded Agler village, 50 km from here in Pulwama district, early Tuesday after receiving information that militants could be hiding inside.

"As the troops were busy in searches, two JeM militants opened heavy fire at the security forces, resulting in the immediate death of an army soldier identified as Rajesh Chauhan. Two army soldiers were also wounded and were evacuated to hospital for treatment," a senior police official here said.

"Two JeM militants including Waseem, a Pakistan national and district commander of the outfit, were killed."

He said the cordon around the village was tightened and the guerrillas were engaged in a fierce firefight.

Two AK-47 rifles have been recovered from the encounter site.
