Lucknow : The Uttar Pradesh police probing the triple blasts in Gorakhpur town and the discovery of explosives from Faizabad were looking for a breakthrough Thursday even as the state police chief said the investigations were on the "right track".
"Our men are on the job and we are on the right track but we cannot disclose any further details on both the incidents," Director General of Police G.L. Sharma told a press conference here.
Three near-simultaneous blasts had gone off in the eastern Uttar Pradesh town Tuesday evening, followed the next morning by discovery of explosives from the Faizabad railway station.
Cops, however, were unable to confirm whether the 10 litres of liquid recovered from a can hidden in a bag at the station was actually the lethal ammonium nitrate.
Warning to all officers, Sharma said: "Officers must pull up their socks, otherwise they would have to be ready to face penal action.
"Circle officers and deputy superintendents of police have to ensure that they keep track of crime under their respective areas. If they are unable to give details of incidents it would be presumed that they are not doing their job properly."
