Cuban-born Venezuelan Posada was a former CIA operative and has been accused of subversive activities against Cuba, including involvement in the bombing of a Cuban airliner in 1976 that killed 73 people.

According to reports released in Caracas, Venezuela's Ambassador to OAS, Jorge Valero, issued a statement, requesting support from other members in favour of the Venezuelan demand for extradition of Posada.

The statement calls for condemnation of terrorist acts of any sort, rejection of impunity and promotion of cooperation to prevent and fight terrorist actions, in line with commitments made in UN and OAS.

It also insists that, under international agreements in force, the US government is obliged to hand over Posada Carriles.

The statement, which was released by the Bolivarian News Agency (ABN), rejects the US argument that Posada could be in danger if extradited to Venezuela.
