Patna : Minor clashes marred voting under way in Bihar Saturday to elect urban civic bodies.
Voters queued up at polling stations to constitute six municipal corporations, 42 Nagar Parishads and 70 Nagar Panchayats. The balloting began at 7 a.m.
Minor clashes were reported between rival groups despite orders to the security forces to shoot rioters at sight. Over 200 people were arrested on charges of hampering the smooth conduct of the polls, officials said.
About five million people are eligible to decide the fate of 18,667 candidates for the 2,864 ward councillors in different urban bodies spread over 37 districts.
The Nitish Kumar government has reserved 50 percent of the seats for women. Polling for the Patna Municipal Corporation will be held May 29.
