Toronto : An Indo-Canadian cultural group will hold an international art festival next month in Mississauga to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of Canada.
The exhibition, Beyond Boundaries 2007, will be organised by Cross Currents and will showcase well-known artists from the subcontinent. Around 15 prominent Canada-based sculptors, photographers and artists will also be featured.
Each work of art will try to attempt to push the borders of credibility, provoking viewers to question and debate their existence on this planet.
The exhibition will also feature poetry sessions, dance and theatre where social norms will be challenged, the organisers said.
"Our vision is to see a culturally rich, evolved, unified and integrated Canada in the future embracing its unique multiculturalism," said Meena Chopra, president and founder of Cross Currents.
Cross Currents with Habeeba Hobeika Studio of Dance, Egypt, will present an Egyptian classical dance performance, which promises to take the audience through a journey to the mysterious ancient Egyptian temples and exotic Nile villages.
Cross Currents has also teamed up with Sawitri, South Asian Women's inter-cultural Theatre and Research Initiative, to produce a 40-minute play entitled What Now?
The two-day event, will be inaugurated by Citizenship and Immigration Minister Mike Colle, has the backing of the Mississauga Arts Council.
