New Delhi : Indian Defence Minister A.K. Antony met his South Korean counterpart Kim Jang-soo here Wednesday and discussed defence cooperation in joint naval exercises and trade in military goods, a defence ministry official said.
The meeting came ahead of a regional security conclave in Singapore that both ministers will attend.
It was aimed at laying the groundwork for closer defence cooperation between the two countries, the official said.
Antony is likely to visit South Korea later this year.
Kim later met Indian Army chief, Gen. J.J. Singh.
He for Singapore Thursday to attend the Shangri-La dialogue Friday-Saturday that will discuss issues related to regional security cooperation. Antony will also attend the meeting on his first visit abroad after becoming defence minister seven months ago.
Organized by the International Institute for Strategic Studies, the dialogue brings together 26 countries, including defence ministers from 14 countries.
