Bhopal : At least eight people were killed and four others seriously injured when a coal-laden truck overturned and crushed them underneath it in Narsinghpur district, the police said Thursday.
According to the police, the accident occurred Wednesday night when the driver of the truck was trying to take a turn on the road. The truck overturned and fell on an auto-rickshaw standing by the roadside, crushing it.
“The truck driver fled the scene immediately, but the cleaner of the truck died in the accident. Seven other people also were killed after the cargo fell on them. Their identities are being ascertained,” District Collector Manish Singh told IANS over phone.
“Their bodies have been sent to Gadarwara Hospital for post-mortem examination. The relatives of the dead would be given an ex-gratia of Rs. 5,000,” Singh added.
