Cairo : Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas has said that there was no change in the Palestinian Authority’s official stand with regard to issues such as the rights of the Palestinians as laid down in official texts.
Abbas, who was speaking to reporters after conferring with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak Tuesday, dismissed reports that he was no longer expecting much from the upcoming international conference on the Mideast, due to be hosted by the US administration in the city of Annapolis.
He said the Palestinian stand was unchanged specifically towards issues such as the rights of Palestinians as laid down in UN resolutions, the US-sponsored Road Map peace plan and the Arab Peace initiative.
“The Palestinian stand has not changed and is not likely to change,” Abbas said.
He said that the issues he discussed with Mubarak included those discussed between the Israeli and US sides.
Abbas said that the first item of the Road Map called on the Palestinian side to provide peace and security and on the Israeli side to halt settlement building activity.
He added that while the Palestinians have kept their side of the bargain, the Israelis have not done the same.
