Chennai : The PMK, which supports the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu, Friday said it would float a new political front with the Congress and other parties to fight the DMK and the opposition AIADMK during the 2011 assembly elections.
PMK founder-leader S. Ramadoss told reporters: “We are certain of capturing power because the two parties have failed on all counts. In recent times, the DMK regime’s record on maintenance of law and order has been pathetic. Therefore, the new formation is a historic necessity.”
He however ruled out withdrawing his party’s outside support to the minority DMK government.
“Every party can aspire for power if it has a strong policy-based plan to improve the lives of the people. Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi himself has said that we were welcome to reform the police force following our criticism in the wake of the murderous attack on (state Congress president) M. Krishnaswamy. We take the chief minister’s words as a blessing,” Ramadoss said.
He hedged questions on alliance partners and said that except for the DMK, AIADMK and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), all others were welcome.
“No doubt, we will have only a responsible, coalition government and give all our friends an equal opportunity to serve the masses. At this moment I can say that our alliance with the Congress during the next Lok Sabha elections is a certainty,” Ramadoss said.
“We are wiser after our experience with the BJP in 1998 and 1999. Such mistakes and mishaps will not recur,” he added.
