Pune : A 22-year-old call centre worker here was raped and murdered by the driver of a taxi hired by the company and the driver’s accomplice, police said Saturday.
Jyoti Chaudhary, who hails from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, was living with her sister and brother-in-law at Panchwati locality in Pune and was working for IT major Wipro’s call centre.
On Nov 1, Jyoti was picked up at 10.00 p.m. by a taxi hired by the call centre. It was driven by Purushottam, who was accompanied by Pradeep.
The police alleged the men — both in their early twenties — took the victim to Valunje village on the outskirts of Pune and raped her. They later killed her by smashing her head with a stone.
Jyoti’s body was recovered Friday night and the suspects were arrested soon after.
Superintendent of Police of Pune (Rural) Nagre Patil told IANS: “Both the accused have confessed their crime while the body has been taken for post mortem examination. We are waiting for the medical reports.”
