“Malkit Singh, a CISF constable deployed at the security of Shantivan, was detained and questioned about his presence at the venue,” said a senior police official.

“He was taken to the Daryaganj police station but later freed after his identity was verified with the CISF officials. Malkit was also carrying an authorised invitation card,” the official added.

CISF spokesman Vertul Singh told IANS that it was a case of confusion, as the official was not wearing his uniform.

“Our officials guard the Shantivan round the clock but before such VVIP functions, the assigned central security agencies take over the command from the deployed force,” Vertul said.

“The security agencies detained him, as he was not supposed to be present there, but he had a valid invitation card,” Vertul added.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Congress president Sonia Gandhi also visited Shantivan.
