Members of the opposition Congress party rushed to the well of the house, raised slogans against the government headed by chief minister Naveen Patnaik and demanded the suspension of question hour.

Speaker Maheswar Mohanty adjourned the house without any business at 10.30 a.m., sources said.

Dozens of farmers were injured when the police charged at them near Hirakud dam in western Orissa’s Sambalpur district on Nov 6. The farmers were protesting against the diversion of irrigation water from the dam to industries.

More than 60 people were injured when police baton-charged agitating teachers demanding regularisation of employment in different parts of the state Saturday.

The winter session of the house began Monday but the assembly was adjourned several times on the first day for the same reason.
