Kumble gets 50th Test wicket at Kotla

New Delhi : Anil Kumble leading the Indian Test team for the first time after playing 118 Tests, also captured his 50th Test wicket Thursday at the Ferozeshah Kotla stadium, which has been a happy hunting ground for him.

Kumble, India’s 30th captain, established a record for most Tests (118) before leading the side. He is also the third oldest Indian captain to make his debut as captain after Hemu Adhikari (39 years 190 days) and Vinoo Mankad (37 years 264 days).

Yasir Hameed became Kumble’s first victim as Test captain and Kamran Akmal’s wicket, made Kumble the first bowler to claim 50 wickets at Kotla.

Some of the other statistical highlights of the day are:

– Salman Butt (1) is without a fifty in his last nine Test innings – his sequence being 10 & 0 vs. England at Lord’s in 2006, 20 & 16 at Leeds, 24 & 3 vs.South Africa at Karachi, 40 & 6 vs. South Africa at Lahore and 1 vs. India at Ferozshah Kotla, Delhi.

– Shoaib Malik got his third duck in Tests.

– Harbhajan Singh, after being wicketless in his last two Tests against Pakistan at Lahore and Faisalabad in 2005-06, claimed Sohail Tanvir’s wicket.

– Misbah-ul-Haq (71 not out) posted his career-best score, his maiden fifty.
