Lucknow : Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav Sunday visited the sites of Friday’s serial blasts that ripped three prominent Uttar Pradesh towns, leaving 13 dead and 80 wounded.
With his man Friday Amar Singh in tow, Yadav was accompanied by his close political allies – Telugu Desam chief Chandra Babu Naidu and Om Prakash Chautala.
The leaders flew down to Lucknow from Vijayawada and then went to Varanasi and Faizabad.
While nine persons were killed in Varanasi, four died in Faizabad. The explosion in a local court left Lucknow unscathed.
In an obvious bid to take political mileage of the situation, Yadav pointedly blamed Chief Minister Mayawati for the incident.
“It is a total failure of the state government and speaks volumes of Mayawati government’s inability to provide security to the people”, he told the media.
“I fail to understand how Mayawati was trying to pass the buck to the centre when her own government’s lapses were clearly visible”, he said.
“We are not trying to hold a brief for the centre, but let Mayawati tell us in explicit terms how she considered it a failure of the centre if she has anything concrete to prove that,” he added.
Yadav said that when there was a terrorist strike during his regime in Ayodhya and Varanasi, his government took firm steps to ensure safety of the people and worked out both the cases in record time.
