New Delhi : The Lok Sabha will discuss the Indo-US nuclear deal Tuesday, the Business Advisory Committee of the Indian parliament’s lower house decided Monday.
After the Lok Sabha, the deal is also likely to be discussed in the Rajya Sabha (the upper house) later this week or early next week, said sources in the parliamentary affairs ministry.
The impasse between the government and the opposition on the civilian nuclear deal led to the stalling of Parliament throughout the monsoon session.
But the opponents to the deal have now agreed to a debate in the house. Both the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Left Front, which supports the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government from outside, insist there is no change in their “principled opposition” to the deal.
