Lucknow : Am empty train caught fire at the Allahabad railway station Monday afternoon but there were no reports of casualties.
Two coaches of the train were gutted before fire tenders managed to extinguish the blaze.
“Rail officials attributed the blaze to an electrical short-circuit,” senior superintendent of police Dipesh Juneja told IANS over telephone from Allahabad, about 200 km from here.
“Luckily, the Nauchandi Express had arrived at the platform barely 15-20 minutes earlier, so it was completely free of passengers. Otherwise, the fire could have resulted in a major disaster,” he said.
This was the third train fire at the Allahabad railway station over the past five months.
The same Nauchandi Express had caught fire there on July 9, followed by another blaze on the Tulsi Express Oct 3. Electrical short-circuit was described as the cause of both accidents.
