Coalition forces’ air strike kills dozen Afghan workers

Kabul : Air raids by the US-led coalition forces on a suspected hideout of Taliban insurgents in eastern Nuristan province of Afghanistan have killed at least 12 civilians, provincial governor Tamim Nuristani said Wednesday.

“The US-led coalition forces in an air strike Monday night against militants killed 12 workers of a road construction company and injured two others,” Nuristani said, adding that all the victims were Afghan nationals.

He said a number of Taliban insurgents were also killed in the air raids, but he could not give the exact number of casualties.

Nuristani identified the company as local firm Ameripa, which was building a road between Nangraj and Norgam districts.

Neither the US military nor the company’s officials were immediately available for comment.
