Opposition members also turned down Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra’s offer for a discussion on the issue and reiterated that they would not settle for anything less than the resignation of the chief minister as an impartial inquiry by the Lokayukta (anti-corruption cell) was not possible with Chouhan at the helm of affairs.

The state Lokayukts has registered a first information report (FIR) against Chouhan, his wife, and others for alleged corruption in the purchase of four dumpers that were later hired out to the Rewa-based J P Cement company. The FIR was registered following the directive of a local special court.

While the entire opposition was in the well of the house demanding Chouhan’s resignation, Finance Minister Raghavji made a statement declaring a six percent increase in dearness allowance (DA) for the state government employees, taking it to a total of 32 percent from December this year. Raghavji said the hike would also be applicable to the pensioners.

Soon after, Speaker Ishwardas Rohani adjourned the house for an indefinite period. The session was scheduled to last for 12 days and conclude on Dec 7.
