Chandigarh : A fire broke out Thursday in a newly constructed building in a cricket stadium here that will host Monday’s fourth India-Australia one-day international but there was no serious damage to the structure.
Three fire tenders were rushed to the spot after smoke billowed out of the air-conditioning ducts in the media centre housed in the building. The fire was controlled before it could spread.
Officials of who rushed to the spot said a new air-conditioning plant would be installed in the media centre.
The fire caused much embarrassment to the administration as the tie is only four days away. Tickets for the match also went on sale Thursday.
An international match is being played at the Sector 16 stadium after nearly 14 years. The administration had claimed that the stadium had been completely renovated and proper arrangements had been made for the match.
