General Musharraf told Geo TV in an interview last night that resignations from the opposition alliance parliamentarians will not affect his re-election bid.

“I am hopeful that I will be re-elected in the presidential elections as the overwhelming majority of parliamentarians are supporting me,” General Musharraf said.

Around 164 members of national and provincial assemblies belonging to the opposition alliance All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) resigned on Tuesday to block General Musharraf’s re-election bid.

He said resignations will not affect his re-election bid and that there are more than 1000 members of national and provincial assemblies and resignations by more than 100 will not affect the election process.
