Outlining the vision, Symantec India managing director Vishal Dhupar told about 1,000 delegates that securing IT infrastructure from end-to-end had become critical in the digital world, as pervasive technology was not only converging but also connecting everyone through multiple devices and applications.

“With India and China emerging as the growth engines in Asia-Pacific, which accounts for 25 percent of the world’s trade volume, seamless technology, real-time access on 24×7 basis and risk management have become fundamental for enterprises and organisations to maintain growth momentum,” Dhupar said at the inaugural session of the Symantec Vision 2007, being held here for the second time after two years.

Referring to the explosive growth of mobile connections, increasing use of electronic devices for buying and selling or payments and transacting business on the Internet in India, Dhupar said IT administrators have begun to factor in safety and security aspects in their operational and storage machines.

Latest stats released by TRAI (telecom regulatory authority of India) indicate mobile connections have crossed the 200-million mark across the country as on Sep 30.

Similarly, a recent A C Nielsen survey revealed the use of Internet by registered customers of online banking has shot up by 68 percent during the current fiscal (FY 2008) over the last fiscal.

At the same time, a Forrester Research study showed Indian firms have suffered about 30 percent losses due to data leakage and poor implementation of protective measures.

The daylong event, which marks the 10th anniversary of Symantec Vision worldwide and the silver jubilee year of the US-based firm, has drawn stakeholders spanning channel partners, vendors and end-users of its anti-virus products and other security solutions.

Symantec senior vice-president Bernard Kwok said in a message that the summit was being held to create confidence in a concerned world by building stronger solutions to protect IT infrastructure and information.

Besides showcasing its range of enterprise security solutions for all network tiers across gateways, servers and client levels and services to maintain security, storage and IT infrastructure at the expo, the company has roped in its channel partners, distributors and reputed customers to interact and exchange views on issues concerning security environment.
