Major fire in Connaught Place building

New Delhi : A major fire broke out in a government building in the capital’s business hub Connaught Place early Saturday. No casualty was reported, an official said.

According to fire department officials, the blaze was reported around 5.00 a.m. on the seventh floor of Mayur Bhavan, which houses several government offices including those of the income tax department.

No one was present on the floor at that time.

Twenty-seven fire tenders rushed to the building and rescued two guards – Bhim Raj, 30, and Munder Lal, 28. Both men were trapped on the ninth floor.

The fire was doused at 8.35 a.m. The reason for the blaze is not known.
