Srinagar : A mild tremor rocked the northern parts of the Kashmir Valley Saturday morning, officials said.
“It was a minor one and it was not felt in Srinagar though reports from neighbouring areas like Ganderbal, Sumbal, Kangan and Sonamarg said residents felt the shock,” N.P. Bhatnagar of the meteorological office told IANS.
Bhatnagar provided no further details.
In 2005, a massive earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale rocked both sides of Kashmir. More than 80,000 people were killed and thousands were left homeless. Most destruction occurred in Muzaffarabad in Pakistan.
