Police say an explosive-laden car rammed into a US military convoy on the road to the Kabul International Airport, causing a huge blast.

The interior ministry said an unknown number of US soldiers were killed and wounded in the attack this morning in addition to two civilian deaths and one injured.

“The attack caused casualties to American forces, but we don’t have information about their number. Two civilians were also killed and one wounded,” said the interior ministry’s spokesman Zmarai Bashari.

At least one military vehicle of the US forces was damaged in the attack.

However, chief of the crime investigation unit of the police, Alishah Paktiawal, said two US military vehicles and as many civilian cars were destroyed in the attack.

Public Health Minister Amin Fatimi said seven people, including a woman, were wounded in the incident and have been brought to hospitals.

The Taliban, through its spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, have claimed responsibility, saying one of their fighters, Abdul Rahman from Kabul, carried out the attack and killed seven US soldiers.

This is the third suicide attack since Sep 29 to hit Kabul. Two previous attacks on the Afghan army and police killed more than 40 people.

Meanwhile, the three German troops wounded Friday in a suicide attack in northern Afghanistan are reported in stable condition.

Colonel Lieutenant Bohn, a public information officer with the German troops in Kunduz, said the three soldiers and an Afghan interpreter were under treatment in the German Field Hospital in Mazar-e-Sharif city in good condition.

He said a suicide bomber on foot detonated himself after approaching a German patrol on way to their base 10 km west of Kunduz city Friday afternoon.

Attacks on foreign and Afghan forces have considerably increased since the Taliban launched a countrywide operation they call Nusrat (victory) in mid-September.
