Another case of ragging in Bhopal

Bhopal : A first-year engineering student has registered a case of ragging and sexual assault against his senior students here Monday.

Vishal Sharma, a resident of Shivpuri district, in his complaint to the police has accused his seniors of beating him, tonsuring his head, forcing him to consume liquor, making him to dance naked for hours and trying to assault him sexually.

He has also lodged a complaint in this regard with Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission.

“They used to abuse and beat us for no reason since beginning. But Saturday morning, their torture crossed all limits when two of my seniors – Kunal Chaudhary and Neeraj Kumar – called me to their room at night. They first asked me to drink and when I refused, they beat me and also tried to abuse me sexually,” Vishal said.

The victim is a student at the Sree Institute of Science and Technology (SIST) and was staying at the reputed Utkarsh students’ hostel in the state capital.

The police registered a case of physical assault against the two senior students after the boy’s father approached them.

The college management has not filed any complaint in this regard with the Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV), (University of Technology of Madhya Pradesh) to which it is affiliated.

“The university has not received any complaint in this regard from the college management”, said Registrar of RGPV A.K.S. Bhadoriya.

The director of the institute, Naeem Khan, said: “Eight senior students have been suspended on the charge of ragging juniors.”

Meanwhile, the police Sunday night arrested eight third-year girl students accused of ragging two first-year students in the hostel of Institute of Hotel Management last week.

The senior students allegedly physically assaulted the two girls and made them stand for hours, following which the victims lost consciousness and were rushed to a private nursing home.

The arrested were identified as Joyce Neel Pinto, Rohini Oberoi, Heena Issac, Kawalpreet Kunwar, Neha Khanna, Deepti Nirkhe, Sumani Walia and Upasana Goyal.
