Washington : Egg freezing is not a viable method for women who decide to postpone motherhood for personal or career reasons, a committee of doctors warned private clinics on Wednesday.
According to the group from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ARSM), most frozen eggs die and the success rate is about 2 percent and can be lower if the woman is over 35 years of age.
Many women have their eggs frozen to guarantee future fertility, even though they do not have health problems, but the group of experts said that belief is wrong.
In 2006, 186 British women, most of whom have some kind of tumor, had their eggs frozen, the experts said.
Only four women were successfully fertilized and had their children.
Many of the other women have not found a couple to procreate or have economic problems.
