Patna : Seven people have drowned after their boat capsized in a river in Bihar’s Vaishali district Saturday, official sources said. Two or three others were missing, feared drowned.
All the victims were going to a village fair organised on the eve of Dussehra.
According to official sources, the boat carrying about 25 people capsized in Nun river Saturday.
“Seven bodies were fished out and two-three people were still missing and feared drowned,” an official said. About a dozen people managed to swim to safety or were rescued by local residents.
The district administration said the boat sank due to overloading and a strong current. The incident has dampened the festive mood ahead of Dussehra.
