Jakarta : Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas was scheduled to arrive in Jakarta on Sunday afternoon for a state visit and would be met by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the Merdeka Palace on Monday, Minister of State Secretary Hatta Rajasa said on Sunday.
“A state welcoming ceremony will be held on Monday,” the minister said.
In the bilateral meeting between the two leaders, Palestinian peace efforts would be the main topic of the discussion, he said.
Palestinians hopes that Indonesia could play a big role in the Middle East peace process, especially concerning the Palestinian problems, the minister said.
During his stay in Jakarta, President Abbas was also scheduled to deliver a speech to Indonesian diplomats, businesspeople and officials at a gathering organized by the Indonesian Council on World Affairs.
Abbas’s visit to Indonesia has been delayed for several times since last year.
Indonesia and Palestine have good relations. Indonesia supports the establishment of a Palestine State.
