The initial report prepared by seven agencies suggests that the attacker targeted former premier and chairperson of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Benazir Bhutto but she survived because of the armoured carrier.

The report, according to Geo TV, said one of the blasts was a suicide attack and there was no evidence about the other attack. It also mentioned that the suicide attacker probably firstly hurled a hand grenade and than blew himself up. Benazir Bhutto went for rest in the internal portion of the bulletproof truck, surviving the attack.

The two blasts took place near the vehicle carrying Benazir Bhutto in the southern port city Karachi early Friday morning, leaving at least 139 people dead and more than 500 others injured.

Benazir Bhutto was leading a procession of PPP workers who were celebrating her return after eight years of self-imposed exile Thursday.
