The SGPC has sought that Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (DSGMC) president Harvinder Singh Sarna and his brother Paramjit Singh Sarna be excommunicated from the Sikh community.

The SGPC executive committee made the appeal to the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of the Sikh religion, after a meeting Monday at the holy shrine of Anandpur Sahib, 85 km from here.

The executive committee passed a resolution seeking the summoning of the Sarna brothers before the Akal Takht at the Sikh holy city of Amritsar.

The Sarna brothers have been charged with deliberately disobeying the Akal Takht, especially on its directive of not allowing private publishers to publish the Sikh holy book – “Guru Granth Sahib”.

The Akal Takht had in 1988 prohibited private publishers from publishing the Sikh holy book. However, the Sarna brothers got it published privately and even got it transported to other countries. They have been charged with sending one container of holy books to Dubai recently.

The Punjab government had earlier banned the publishing of “Guru Granth Sahib” by any private publisher in Punjab.

The Sikh holy book is currently published by the Golden Press managed by the SGPC in Amritsar.
