India under-16 soccer team leaves for Asian qualifiers

Mumbai : The Indian under-16 football team leaves here late Wednesday night to take part in the qualification rounds of the Asian Football Confederation Championship in Saudi Arabia from 0ct 7 to Nov 7.

The Indians are placed in Group C, along with Iraq, Sri Lanka, Lebanon and Bhutan, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) announced here Wednesday.

The AIFF surprisingly did not announce the captain of the team even though it mentioned the names of the support staff.

India opens its campaign against Sri Lanka Saturday then play Iraq Oct 30, Lebanon Nov 1 and Saudi Arabia Nov 4, before finishing their group fixtures against Bhutan Nov 7.
