Margi (Kishtwar) : “It appeared as if the village was bombarded,” had said IGP Jammu zone SP Vaid to media claiming that government has announced 15-day free ration to the victims but ironically Margi villagers today don’t have utensils and fuel to cook any food.

A villager Ghulam Mohammed told News Agency of Kashmir that being poor people in the village had constructed their houses of mud and wood and used to cook and eat their food in earthen pots and bowls.

“The devastating fire has consumed everything. Today we don’t have utensils and whatever we had stocked for the winter season too has been destroyed,” he said. The Margi village in remote corner of Kishtwar district remains snow-bound for nine months in a year and it has no shop.

Before the onset of winters poor villagers used to stock food grains and fodders for their cattle in Ghamber—big sized containers made up of mud.

Ghulam Mohammed further said, “In our village every family had been cooking and eating their food in earthen pots and bowls but I had a steel bowl. I retrieved it from the debris but now it can not be used.”

“They have announced to give us free ration for 15 days but we don’t have any utensil and fuel to cook the food grains,” he told NAK.

Empty handed and empty stomach villagers are now confused. They don’t how to cook food grains without utensils to have two square meals and survive the harsh winter ahead.
