Bangalore : Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) president H.D. Deve Gowda Thursday ruled out forming a government with the Congress, scotching rumours that the two parties might get together to rule Karnataka for a second time.

Addressing a crowded press conference here, the former prime minister also demanded dissolution of the assembly and early elections in the state – under President’s rule since earlier this month.

Deve Gowda’s decision brings the curtain down on the efforts of senior JD-S leader M.P. Prakash to convince the Congress to try to form a coalition with the party.

Prakash had gone to New Delhi without Deve Gowda’s permission and met Home Minister Shivraj Patel, Congress general secretary and Karnataka in-charge Pritviraj Chavan and Motilal Vora Tuesday. He claimed their response to the idea was positive.

Prakash met Deve Gowda Thursday morning after which the press conference was called to announce the final decision of the party.
