Jakarta : Mount Soputan in central Indonesia exploded Thursday morning but there was no danger to those living nearby, officials said.
“The mountain spewed smoke and sand up to 1,500 meters to the air,” said one official.
The eruption was not dangerous for the residents living outside the radius of six kilometres of the crater located in Sulawesi Island, he said.
Mount Soputan is part of the country’s 129 active volcanoes, of which 66 are located in the high-density population areas in Java and Sumatra islands.
