Malaysian firms showcase brand names at two-day fest in New Delhi

New Deldi : Fourteen leading Malaysian companies are showcasing their brand names at the two-day Malaysia Fest here aimed at promoting deeper awareness on India-Malaysia trade and cultural relations.

Hosted by the Malaysian High Commission in India to mark the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-India diplomatic ties, the event also includes a travel mart to promote Malaysia as a must-visit tourist destination to Indian holidaymakers,

“We want to showcase Malaysian companies’ presence in India. About 14 companies from IJM, Malaysia Airlines to a balloon manufacturer, a joint- venture concern between Malaysia and India, are exhibiting their products.

“This event is part of our efforts to promote more awareness on Malaysia-India trade and economic ties that spans more than 50 years,” acting Malaysian High Commissioner to India Norlin Othman told Bernama.

She said the fest would also expose the active participation of Malaysian companies, which are jointly working with their Indian counterparts, in fuelling India’s vibrant economy that has yielded abundant investment opportunities.

Concurring, fest participants said the booming Indian market was ideal for Malaysian companies to tap into the tremendous business potentials.

“We are involved in 12 major road construction projects and have completed almost seven and are working on the others.

“We are also looking at new projects that are coming up in India,” said Yam Keong Chee, director of UE Development India Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of UEM Group.

On a similar note, MAS Regional Manager for South Asia Christopher Yek said India had become an important market for the national carrier, with passenger volume growing on a healthy rate every year.

“India is one of the highest providers of passenger traffic to Malaysia. We have workers, businessmen and even couples going to Malaysia to get married because Malaysia is an affordable destination.

“We expect the growth to double next year,” he added.
