Mumbai : Pravin Mahajan, accused of killing his elder brother and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pramod Mahajan, Monday reiterated that he was innocent.
Recording his statement before the Sessions Court Judge S.P. Davare here, Pravin termed as false the testimony of his sister-in-law Rekha Pramod Mahajan that he had demanded Rs.10 million from the late leader and trespassed into his flat at Worli in south-central Mumbai on April 22, 2006.
Around 8 a.m. that day, Pravin had gone to the Worli police station, handed over his revolver and confessed to having shot Pramod with four bullets fired from close range.
It was believed that he had recorded his confession on a CD, which did not have an audio track. The case will come up for hearing again Monday afternoon.
On an earlier occasion in January, Pravin had denied the murder and criminal trespass charges against him before Judge Davare.
The court has so far recorded the evidence of 32 witnesses including Rekha, the late leader’s daughter Poonam, BJP leader Gopinath Munde and his wife Pradnya, a domestic help in the Mahajan household, Mahesh Wankhede and others.
The court is likely to complete recording of all the evidence in the case this week and will start hearing the final arguments from Nov 12.
Pramod Mahajan, who also served as a central minister, was one of the most experienced leaders of the BJP. Many saw him as a possible president of the BJP.
