Hyderabad : Rohit Reddy, the three-and-a-half-year-old son of two IT professionals who was kidnapped from a school near his house here Tuesday, was found Wednesday evening in Khammam district, about 200 km from here.
The kidnappers left the boy with a tribal in Tekulapalli village in the district with a request to take care of him. They said they would come back to take the boy. After waiting for a couple of hours, Bhukia Lal informed the local police station.
The boy was brought to police station and from there he was shifted to a hospital as he was running high temperature. The parents spoke to their son over phone.
Rohit was kidnapped Tuesday evening on Janmashtami day when he was playing with other children at a school building close to his house in Kondapur in Madhapur near Hitec City.
Rohit’s father G. Ravinder Reddy is an assistant project manager with Cognizant while his mother Laalasa Reddy is project leader in Satyam Computers.
Some children including Rohit’s eight-year-old brother Praneet, who were witness to the incident, said two unidentified people in a black Toyota Qualis vehicle reached the school, scaled the compound wall and after befriending the child with sweet talk, took him away.
The children raised an alarm but by that time the vehicle had disappeared.
Confusion prevailed over the motive, as the family did not receive any call for ransom.
The incident had shocked the parents, who were at work.
Rohit’s mother had earlier appealed to kidnappers to release him immediately as he had been running high temperature for two days.
“At least give him the medicines because he develops fits in high fever,” said Laalasa while talking to a Telugu television channel. She also read out the names of the prescribed medicines with spellings.
Rohit, a lower kindergarten student, was in the habit of playing with his friends at Sanskruti Vidya Mandir, a school near his house. Since Tuesday was a holiday on account of Janmashtami, the school authorities were not present.
Police had formed special teams to look for the kidnappers. Searches were also conducted in Kurnool, the native district of Ravinder Reddy.
The couple married nine years ago and had also worked abroad for a few years before settling down here.
This was the second kidnapping incident to hit the IT industry in the city in three months. In July, Vedula Satyanaryana, general manager at Satyam Computers, was kidnapped for ransom in Secunderabad when he went to drop his children to school. He was rescued by police in Warangal district.
The kidnap plan was hatched by his car driver with a few other criminals for a ransom of Rs.20 million.
More than 150,000 people are employed in the IT companies in and around Hyderabad, which has emerged as the second major IT hub in the country after Bangalore.
