Jammu : Facing starvation-like situation due to non-release of their salaries, hundreds Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) employees took out a “semi-nude” protest rally, here today.

Visibly inspired from the bollywood blockbuster `Muna Bhai’, the employees say they were forced to come on the roads and adopt this `unique way’ to lodge protest against the attitude of the state government towards the corporation workers.

Workers and employees of state owned transport corporation – which is popularly called as White Elephant due to its performance over years – have been protesting against the non-release of their salaries.

The employees, mostly drivers and conductors, assembled near state motor garage at Bikram Chowk and took out a protest demonstration, here this morning.

The `top-less’ protestors while raising slogans in favour of their demands passed through the busy Tawi bridge and again culminated at Bikram Chowk.

“This is what we would look like if government failed to disburse our salaries in next few days”, Manmeet Singh, one of the protestors told News Agency of Kashmir, adding “Our families have been suffering since years and we have not being paid despite our hard work and dedicated services”.

Another protestor, Joginder said, “The semi-nude condition depicts our condition and we want people to know what we are feeling ourselves”.

The government of Jammu and Kashmir had invited the leaders of the employees to discuss the matter on Sunday but the association rejected the invitation saying they will not give up their agitation unless the salaries are released.

The strike has badly affected the inter-state transport as SRTC employees did not turned back to their work on the sixth consecutive day today.
