CAB president Prasun Mukherjee, who gave away the prize at a simple ceremony at the B.C. Roy Building, said: “Jhulan has not only made us proud but the whole country as well.”

This achievement is all the more memorable because she was the only cricketer from India to be short-listed by ICC this year, Mukherjee said.

“We are sure she will give us more proud moments,” he said.

Goswami said, “I am deeply honoured by the gesture. This will inspire me to perform even better.”

Goswami is the fastest woman bowler in the world, regularly notching up 120 kmph.

Talking about CAB allowing women cricketers from Bengal to use its facility, she said: “This is a much awaited move and a very welcome one.

“Now we will be able to use the world class facility of the Eden Gardens. I am sure this will inspire the next generation of women cricketers from Bengal to take up the game more seriously,” she said.

India opener Sourav Ganguly could not attend the function.

Goswami Friday returned from Johannesburg in South Africa where she was honoured with the ICC Woman Cricketer of the Year award Sunday.
