The Katwa sub-divisional court in Burdwan district rejected Chowdhury’s bail plea and ordered his judicial remand till Oct 4 for the murder of Ketugram panchayat chief Gobordhan Ghosh.

Earlier, Chowdhury – who represents the Behrampore Lok Sabha constituency in Murshidabad district – was also denied bail on Sep 8 and was sent in judicial remand for given 14 days by the additional chief judicial magistrate’s (ACJM) court in Katwa.

The MP, who has a Robin Hood-like image in Behrampore, was arrested on Sep 7 minutes after he was granted bail in connection with the murder of a hotelier and his son at Behrampore in 2005.

As he stepped out of the court of Behrampore chief judicial magistrate, Chowdhury was arrested in connection with two fresh cases – the murder of Ghosh in 2003 and for creating trouble at a polling booth at Bharatpur in Murshidabad the same year.
