Vladivostok (Russia) : Two US Navy combat ships will arrive Monday in the port of Vladivostok in Russia’s far east to participate in joint manoeuvres with the Russian Navy, a Pacific Fleet spokesman said Saturday.
The exercises, dubbed Pacific Eagle-2007, will be held Sep 28-30 and will include mine-sweeping and anti-submarine operations, an interception of a vessel trespassing territorial waters and a sea-rescue operation.
“It is the third meeting of the Russian and American sailors this year, which has two goals — further development of naval cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region and the joint naval exercises Pacific Eagle-2007,” the spokesman said.
The US Navy has dispatched an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Lassen (DDG 82) and a minesweeper USS Patriot (MCM 7) to participate in the upcoming manoeuvres.
Russia is represented by an Udaloy-class destroyer, Admiral Panteleyev.
