Beirut : The casualty toll from the assassination bombing targeting the anti-Syrian lawmaker Antoine Ghanem reaches 97, Lebanese Hospitals’ League released on Friday.
Local Naharnet news website quoted the league’s report as saying that Wednesday’s lethal attack in east Beirut’s suburb of Sin el-Fil killed five people and wounded 92.
Besides Ghanem, his two body guards and two passersby were also killed in the explosion.
According to the released detail list, 54 of the wounded went back home same day of the blast after receiving emergency treatment at nine hospitals.
The number of the hospitalized stands at 33, of which 17 remained in three hospitals by Friday.
Among all the wounded, with the exception of one who remains in critical condition, were not related to the targeted lawmaker.
Ghanem, 64, a senior member of the pro-government Phalange Party, was the eighth member of the anti-Syrian majority to be assassinated since the murder of ex-premier Rafik Hariri in 2005.
