Kolkata : A two-member delegation of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) visited the water-logged Eden Gardens stadium Sunday to check out the facilities and security arrangements ahead of the team’s Nov 30-Dec 4 Test match at the venue.
PCB’s director of cricket operations chief Zakir Khan, after inspecting the stadium from a distance on a rain-soaked Sunday, said it is the home of cricket in the sub-continent and players from across the border love to play on this ground.
“They are very happy with the arrangements, though because of rain they could not go on to the field,” Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president and city police commissioner Prasun Mukherjee said.
Zakir Khan was accompanied by former Pakistan fast bowler Sohail Khan and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) representative Suru Naik.
The officials also inspected the indoor facilities, including the gymnasium at the B.C. Roy pavilion, and expressed their satisfaction.
They, however, could not set foot on the field because of its inundation and turned their attention to the team hotel.
Later, Sohail Khan said at a press meet: “We are happy seeing the facilities. It is the home of cricket in the sub-continent and all the players are waiting to play on this ground.”
The former paceman said there were some security issues and he would talk about them with the BCCI.
He also said that a three-member Pakistani delegation visited the Nehru Stadium at Guwahati Saturday and “We will give our report to the BCCI Sep 25.”
Commenting on the Twenty20 World Championships final, Zakir Khan said: “It is a dream match. Both the teams have equal chance.”
Zakir also gave the budding Bengal cricketers a few tips about the game.
