Ramallah : Palestinian police stormed a village in the West Bank city of Nablus Saturday morning to arrest criminals who took advantage of the village position which lies under Israeli military control.
Ahmed al-Sharqawy, chief of Nablus police, said the operation was coordinated with the Israeli army and ended with arresting “tens of wanted people in Houwara village.”
Al-Sharqawy did not disclose the number of the arrested people but residents say they were more than 100.
According to Oslo agreement, the Palestinian National Authority(PNA) assumes civil and administrative control of the village while the Israeli army is in charge of the security issues.
As a result, al-Sharqawy says the criminals remained away “from the Palestinian justice and law” until the security services, made up of the police and national security forces, were able to reach the village after coordination with Israel.
Samer Merib, head of Houwara local council, said the security campaign was pressing “to control the situation in the village where the security anarchy and disorder became the people’s key concern.”
The latest victim of the disorder in the village where about6500 people lives was a man who was killed in clannish battles erupted during a wedding party.
