Ahmedabad : A students’ organisation that is arranging a state-wide function in Gujarat to celebrate martyr Bhagat Singh’s birth centenary on Friday has demanded that the day Bhagat Singh along with Sukhdev and Rajguru was martyred be declared as a national day.
The All India Democratic Students’ Organisation also demanded that a stamp be issued in Bhagat Singh’s honour to mark his birth centenary year.
Students of schools and colleges of Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Ahwa-Dang, Savarkundala, Sabarkantha, Kutch, Saurashtra and all other places participated in the function Wednesday. They were accompanied by youths, workers and authors and playwrights.
The organisation also decided that a team of students and youth from Gujarat, which will participate in the nationwide celebration of Bhagat Singh’s birth centenary at Delhi, will submit a memorandum listing five demands.
The demands include: to incorporate in school syllabus an elaborate life-sketch and evaluation of Bhagat Singh and other revolutionaries; erecting statues of Bhagat Singh at various public places like universities, schools, colleges as well as in parliament premises; a roll-back of globalisation and liberalization policies to honour Bhagat Singh’s anti-imperialist tradition.
