U.S. marine dies in non-combat incident in Iraq

Baghdad : A U.S. marine has died in a non-combat related incident in Iraq’s western province of Anbar, the U.S. military said on Thursday.

The marine assigned to the Multi National Force-West died on Sept. 15, a military statement said without providing further details.

It said the incident was under investigation.

Anbar province is a Sunni insurgents’ stronghold, which stretches from the western edges of Baghdad to the Saudi, Jordanian and Syrian borders.

The latest death brings the number of U.S. soldiers who have been killed in Iraq to about 3,800 since the outbreak of the Iraqi in 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
