US teaches UAE to combat human trafficking

Dubai, Sep 27 (IANS) The US has offered training and other technical support to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to help the latter fight human trafficking.

UAE officials led by Minister for Federal National Council Affairs Mohammed Anwar Gergash and the US delegation led by Ambassador Mark P. Lagon Wednesday reviewed the progress made by the Arab federation in the direction and also discussed ways and means to prevent exploitation of migrant workers, WAM news agency reported.

“(UAE) acknowledges that as a country, we suffer from this issue as do many other developed societies and are deeply concerned for the victims of human trafficking,” said Gergash.

“We share the universal core values that make the elimination of this heinous crime a number one priority, and we are acting comprehensively on the levels of prosecution, protection and prevention.”
