Gaza : The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) here Sunday denounced a recent attack on the Al-Istiklal (independence) newspaper in Gaza City.
“This crime was perpetrated by a group of criminals who seek to rekindle insecurity and chaos in Gaza Strip, which is unacceptable on both popular and factional levels,” Hamas said in a release.
The movement called on the deposed Palestinian government and its interior ministry to investigate the crime and hunt the perpetrators.
“This crime is intended to cause chaos and foment tensions among Palestinian forces and factions,” it said, adding hope no Palestinian faction is involved in such a “cowardly” act.
Three press facilities and offices of Al-Istiklal (independence) newspaper, the mouthpiece of Islamic Jihad Movement, Dunia Al-Watan paper Headquarters and the office of deputy dean of Palestinian journalists Tawfiq Abu Khosa were wrecked and ransacked by gunmen in Gaza on Friday.
Hamas warned that mass media should not be used in any political conflict as this would compromise the interests of the Palestinian people and their cause.
