Captain Chaitanya Bhatawadekar was arrested Tuesday night in connection with the mysterious death of his wife captain Megha Razdan, said Senior Superintendent of Jammu police Parminder Singh.

Razdan was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her house in Kunjwani area, on the outskirts of Jammu, July 1, 2007. Her death sparked a controversy after a purported suicide note was recovered saying she was unhappy with her life and wanted to leave the army.

The note said her seniors were harassing her.

The police said they suspected Captain Chaitanya was trying to escape investigation. They alleged he had cooked up a story of an assault on him and had refused to make a statement on the suicide of his wife.

The police conducted narco-analysis on Captain Chaitanya. Following that, they have charged him with instigating his wife to commit suicide.
