Prosecutor Hesham Badawi asked the court Wednesday for a harsher jail term for Ibrahim Eissa, editor of the daily Al-Dustor, who was convicted of publishing false information about President Hosni Mubarak’s health.

Badawi says the court ignored an article in the penal code which stipulates harsher sentences for such offenses.

Eissa avoided prison by posting bail of US$40 (¤25) pending his appeal.

In August, Eissa’s tabloid speculated on the failing state of the president’s health, saying he occasionally lapsed into a coma, according to The Associated Press.
